Foreign Language Work

- is an area of increasing demand as the travel and communications across the world become easier, faster and cheaper. Areas of concern include

  • Cross border traffic of drugs, arms, wildlife, currency, pornography, art and antiques, cultural artefacts, credit card and banking details,  agricultural products, medicines, music piracy, identity, people
  • Terrorism
  • Money laundering
  • 419 and other types of scam
  • custody cases

As cross-linguistics and cross- cultural considerations must be taken into account (for example, dialect (regional and social), metaphor and ambiguity, and honorifics) foreign language work is only ever undertaken with appropriate interpreters, and spectacular results are sometimes obtained.

Languages and dialects worked with include:

  • Vietnamese
  • Cambodian
  • Cantonese
  • Hokkien
  • Calabrian
  • Arabic
  • languages of the Indian subcontinent
  • Russian
  • Rumanian
  • Spanish

HINDI and MARATHI cases can be done in-house.

* we invite proposals for joint research projects into this area, from linguistic, interpreter, investigative, legal or combined viewpoints.

§ note to interpreters and translators: we are constantly updating our data-base of interpreters and translators who are qualified, accredited (where their country of residence/operation provides facilities for this) or otherwise of appropriate suitability for forensic work. Please contact us, including a brief CV, for further details. We are also happy to hear from students intending to specialise in this field.

*** We are currently looking for a qualified and experienced Arabic interpreter, preferably with some university linguistics qualifications and based in Australia, the UK or the Middle East, to add to our database.
