Voice Line-ups

The conduct of a "voice (or "ear-witness") line-up" should obey the same kinds of criteria set down for eye-witness line-ups.

However, because not all jurisdictions have policy regarding voice line-ups, mistaken assumptions about the conduct of the line-up can be made.

Related to this is the question of "lay identification" or "voice recognition". The ability to recognise the voices of people familiar to us is well-known, but some things need to be taken into consideration, for example the circumstances of an offence or occurrence, or the emotional state of the person making the identification.
